L'acquario di Genova è il più grande acquario italiano e il secondo in Europa, dopo quello di Valencia, in Spagna.

L'acqua dell'acquario è prelevata al largo della costa ed è stabulata in quattro cisterne situate a lato dei due piani. L'acqua viene depurata e disinfettata, quindi immessa nelle vasche, tutte fornite di impianti di filtrazione meccanici e biologici.
